The Bayside Trio

Based in New York City and Portland, Maine, The Bayside Trio was formed in 2006. Highly acclaimed throughout the Northeast, pianist Anastasia Antonacos, cellist Ani Kalayjian, and flutist Nicole Rabata are a tightly knit collaboration, dedicated to exploring contemporary and avant-garde works in addition to the traditional repertoire. The Bayside Trio has appeared at the Spotlight Series at University of Southern Maine faculty concerts, the Elan Fine Arts Center in Rockport, Maine, the ‘Musica Eclectica’ series at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachussetts, the Olin Arts Center at Bates College, the ‘Music at Colby’ series in Waterville, Maine, noonday concerts at First Parish Church, and the ‘Music at the Cathedral’ concert series at St. Luke’s Cathedral in Portland, Maine.

Nicole Rabata, Carl Dimow, and Phil Nyokai James present a unique blend of Irish, Japanese, and Klezmer traditions, featuring improvisational ensemble pieces, traditional melodies, and original compositions. Similarities between traditional techniques and ornamentation are highlighted through improvisational imitation and melding of timbres. Sonorous melodies soar above harmonic textures, each instrument representing a distinct voice while creating a unified and mesmerizing resonance.
